You sell doovde?

I found a few fonejacker videos on YouTube and ever since, I’ve been fairly hooked. The guy basically prank calls random people and speaks nonsense to them until they slam the phone down (well most of them do anyway).

Here’s one of my favourites:

Why wind farms are key to sustainable energy in the 21st century

Until now, I was fairly undecided about wind farm technology and whether it was worthwhile given the large lobby against all wind farm development. This however has all changed since a planning application was submitted to build a wind farm fairly near to my home.

In the past, I largely agreed that wind farms, particularly on-shore ones, were an eye-sore, were unreliable with electricity generating times (i.e. when the wind doesn’t blow, there’s no power being generated) and that they were noisy.

However, an application has been submitted to my local council to build a wind farm at Reeves Hill. I was tempted to go down the typical “not in my back yard” route but instead stepped back and looked at the situation for what it is: (more…)

Does your name alter your lot in life?

According to a new study referenced in a BBC article, yes.

“We have strong perceptions about first names and associate them with success, luck and attractiveness, according to new research. And our perceptions can have very real consequences in everyday life.”

I find it quite fascinating, and I would certain believe such a statement. I know that I often associate names with stereotypes and this quite possibly has an effect on the decisions I make therefore influencing someone else’s life and changing their future.

I’d be quite interested to know where my name comes on the list :D (not that it would change anything though!)

Darth Vader in love

Well I’ve finally finished watching all of the Star Wars films - through from episode 4 to episode 6 and then the prequel episodes too. They are great films and in some ways very powerful - probably my favourite quote out of all of the films came in the last one I watched (Revenge of the Sith), where Padme says “So this is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause.”

Anyway, a bit of YouTube surfing led me to this video where Darth falls back in love with someone - enjoy!

HowTheMarketWorks.com and “bi-weekly websites”?!

Well this is going in a category called “Bi-weekly websites” although it seems that I never post often enough to this category to justify the term “bi-weekly”.

Anyway, we’ve been using a new website at college called How The Market Works - it’s definitely worthy of it’s name. Not only does it explain the basics of the stock market in easy-to-understand language, but it has a really really fun stock market game where you invest in real stocks and make or lose virtual money :) (Believe me it’s addictive).

Lesson of the day - avoid small vicious dogs with arrogant owners

Today has to be one of my worst days in a very long time - what can be worse than having a hole bitten through your fairly new contract phone (2 months into the 18 month contract), having a dog tear a hole in your jeans, having to see your dog limp around in pain as well as attempting to talk sense to an arrogant, self-righteous creep who won’t accept any blame on his part?

That’s been my day, pretty much. In brief, I was walking my two dogs, Bingo (an 8 year old black and white border collie) and Tim (his 2 year old son) on a regular walk I do through a local woodland, when I saw 2 small dogs, probably terriers, running around in a field next to the wood. They were quick to notice me and my dogs and soon enough were coming up to them and sniffing them (as dogs do). Then things got violent and they began attacking each other. Tim was on his lead at the time and hence couldn’t actually escape from the terriers, who wasted no time attacking his underside and his private areas (ouch!) (more…)
