Public announcement

For those members on Webmaster-Talk, you may have noticed I’ve been a bit quiet during the past couple of days. No I haven’t gone mute or lost 3 fingers on each hand, I’ve been busy with a new project.

This ambitious project is a new template download service, Whym Templates, where I hope to upload free templates designed by yours truly for public use. It’s not an original idea, but one difference is that I’m not forcing anyone to place links in the footer.

I hope you’ll all support me with this - it’ll only be useful if people actually download something! ;)

Nice idea Dan. Have you thought about allowing other people to upload their work?

I have been thinking about it but I’ve come to the conclusion that if I want to use the site as a portfolio project when I go into web design, it’ll be complicated to differentiate between my designs and other ones. Not only this, but I’ve adopted the stance that people don’t (currently at least) need to link back to the site or any other, and I’m unsure if people would participate in making themes if they didn’t actually get any link credit from the work.

Sounds like you’ve got it all worked out. Good luck with the project ;)

    Great idea Dan!

I’ll keep an eye on your work - keep up the designing! With regards to the links, although you don’t want to force the users to keep links, it’s always great when they do.

I used to design free templates a couple of years ago, and it’s surprising when you still get work coming through now just because you once put a link in a free template!
