Evidence for Digital Pointless’ idiocy
I just signed into my Digital Pointless account (yes I do actually have one, though I created it to try and sell some domains).
Anyway, after signing in and making a case for my latest cause (a fibre optic network for Britain), I took a look at my Control Panel. Lone behold, I had received some negative talkupation/reputation from some “know-it-all” scammer who believed that PageRank was superior to visitors!
The specific comment with the negative rep was “you noob - learn first, then comment”. Granted I am a new member there, but surely my advice is fairly reasonable?
“Who cares about PageRank? There are plenty of web sites with low PR beating ones with high PR. Google uses 100+ methods to rank web sites, and PageRank is only one of these. Traffic is more important than PR. “
Needless to say, I received the generic “I sell links, so PageRank is a good idea” junk afterwards which completely misses the point that if everyone realised that PR was a waste of time, they wouldn’t bother spending money to try and increase it. Instead, they would focus on buying links that boost their traffic!
The post/thread in question can be found here, if you want to see any of this trash!
By the way, while I was there in the space of a few minutes, I saw several threads about “selling stumbles” or “digg auction”.
Clue scammers/spammers: it’s called Digital Pointless for a reason!

I have a real and legit Stumble account. I like to go hunting on Digital Pointless. Why is it that any link in there has already been “submitted” to Stumble? So I vote ‘em down. Any time I see someone offering to pay for or sell Stumbles, I report it to Stumble Upon, AND I leave reviews of every page of theirs Stumble knows about (and of the user as well) with a thumbs down vote and a message explaining why it’s spam and linking back to the spamtacular post they made.
People are unhappy with me.

It’s only a matter of time before I get banned from there too. I’ll give you one guess as to who I am. Don’t post it here though or I’m out on my ass for sure.

I used to enjoy browsing DP and sharing ideas with fellow users but you are certainly right with the “Digital Pointless” name.
The stumble exchanges threads are daft and make a huge mess of the ‘Freebies’ forum, a place that actually used to contain some great free tips for the newer webmasters around us.
It’s a shame really as such a large forum with a large userbase would be extremely useful for discussion without the mindless idiots (usually from the less developed nations) filling them with spam and mind numbing levels of boredom.
