College

After the extremely long summer holiday (end of June till now), I’ve finally started college. I’m studying a BTEC National Diploma in IT, Level 3. I had an induction day today as well of yesterday, part of which was spend building a bridge from Lego (educational value?!) while a lot of the rest was spent working on a mini-assignment, writing a shopping list of PC components for an imaginary person.

In contrast, something infinitely more interesting is the story of me missing the bus home from Hereford (local city where the college is). Well it goes like this:….

I arrived at the bus station at 4.00ish to check the times and the route. Realising that my bus departed at 5.15, I walked endlessly (so it seemed) around the city until finally arriving back at the bus station circa 5.05. I waited along with the rest of the”Presteigne crew” (I’m not a member of this lot, but sadly they live in the same area as me), and patiently expected the same bus to pick us up as we had when we had left for college this morning.

I had already noticed that there was a bus very similar to the one we had been on, parked over at the other side of the bus station, but this was in a bus parking area which was never used (to our knowledge) for boarding the buses. Standing in the bus shelter, stand 3, I watched as in disbelief, 5.15 arrived and the bus on the other side of the station, across the car park, departed empty.

In desperation, I wanted to believe that the bus would simply go down the road, wait at the traffic lights, turn along and drive past the cinema and then enter the bus station again over at our side and stop at our stand. Sadly for me, this didn’t happen! I watched helplessly as the bus DID drive down the road, wait at the traffic lights and then turn along and drive past the cinema, but it DIDN’T turn back into the station at the nearby entrance and instead joined in with the rest of the traffic jam. Finally the lights changed and my hope of getting home at about 6.30 were lost.

I rang home and my lift was on it’s way, but I still had yet another hour to spend wisely waste. I was eventually picked up and spent 45 minutes in the car returning home.

Life goes on…
