As some people will know, I’m a moderator at Webmaster-Talk, a comprehensive webmaster forum. Recently, Earners Forum, an online community for individuals who were earning money online, merged with Webmaster-Talk. The merge will mean new content for Webmaster-Talk, lots of new members and masses of new expertise that we didn’t have before.
The forum has now opened a celebratory contest with prizes including a Macbook Air, iPod touch and a Nintendo DS. 5 lucky winners will get these prizes by collecting the most points - you get 10 for just signing up, 2 per post and an incredible 200 for submitting articles.
The contest will be open for another 32 days, after which 5 winners will be announced. Good luck!
I found a few fonejacker videos on YouTube and ever since, I’ve been fairly hooked. The guy basically prank calls random people and speaks nonsense to them until they slam the phone down (well most of them do anyway).
Until now, I was fairly undecided about wind farm technology and whether it was worthwhile given the large lobby against all wind farm development. This however has all changed since a planning application was submitted to build a wind farm fairly near to my home.
In the past, I largely agreed that wind farms, particularly on-shore ones, were an eye-sore, were unreliable with electricity generating times (i.e. when the wind doesn’t blow, there’s no power being generated) and that they were noisy.
However, an application has been submitted to my local council to build a wind farm at Reeves Hill. I was tempted to go down the typical “not in my back yard” route but instead stepped back and looked at the situation for what it is: Read the rest of this entry »
According to a new study referenced in a BBC article, yes.
“We have strong perceptions about first names and associate them with success, luck and attractiveness, according to new research. And our perceptions can have very real consequences in everyday life.”
I find it quite fascinating, and I would certain believe such a statement. I know that I often associate names with stereotypes and this quite possibly has an effect on the decisions I make therefore influencing someone else’s life and changing their future.
I’d be quite interested to know where my name comes on the list (not that it would change anything though!)
Well I’ve finally finished watching all of the Star Wars films - through from episode 4 to episode 6 and then the prequel episodes too. They are great films and in some ways very powerful - probably my favourite quote out of all of the films came in the last one I watched (Revenge of the Sith), where Padme says “So this is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause.”
Anyway, a bit of YouTube surfing led me to this video where Darth falls back in love with someone - enjoy!
Well this is going in a category called “Bi-weekly websites” although it seems that I never post often enough to this category to justify the term “bi-weekly”.
Anyway, we’ve been using a new website at college called How The Market Works - it’s definitely worthy of it’s name. Not only does it explain the basics of the stock market in easy-to-understand language, but it has a really really fun stock market game where you invest in real stocks and make or lose virtual money (Believe me it’s addictive).
Today has to be one of my worst days in a very long time - what can be worse than having a hole bitten through your fairly new contract phone (2 months into the 18 month contract), having a dog tear a hole in your jeans, having to see your dog limp around in pain as well as attempting to talk sense to an arrogant, self-righteous creep who won’t accept any blame on his part?
That’s been my day, pretty much. In brief, I was walking my two dogs, Bingo (an 8 year old black and white border collie) and Tim (his 2 year old son) on a regular walk I do through a local woodland, when I saw 2 small dogs, probably terriers, running around in a field next to the wood. They were quick to notice me and my dogs and soon enough were coming up to them and sniffing them (as dogs do). Then things got violent and they began attacking each other. Tim was on his lead at the time and hence couldn’t actually escape from the terriers, who wasted no time attacking his underside and his private areas (ouch!) Read the rest of this entry »
Windows XP may be a 7 year old operating system but it is still widely used, and often preferred, to Windows Vista. However, Microsoft have still decided that they will cease all sales of the OS (Operating System) on June 30th and officially stop support sometime after this date.
While it is inevitable that Windows users will have to upgrade sooner or later, XP has been on the whole a user friendly, compatible OS that has remained incredibly versatile for it’s age. In my opinion, Microsoft should continue to sell Windows XP for users that prefer it, but put emphasis on selling Windows Vista and preloading most systems with it, just as it is doing at the moment.
If you agree, then sign the Save XP petition at InfoWorld!
If you live in the UK, then it’s hard to miss the controversy that the Archbishop of Canterbury has caused by what he said on BBC Radio a couple of days away. For the uninformed, the Archbishop said that he thought it was “unavoidable” that some aspects of Sharia (Islamic) law were adopted here in the UK to “retain social cohesion”. Of course, just about all parties in parliament have jumped on the bandwagon, distancing themselves from his comments with some even calling for him to resign.
As per usual, the BNP (British National Party), a bunch of racist scum, are having a field day purposely misinterpreting and broadcasting his remarks simple to gain further support for their Neo-Nazi policies.
Sharia law is a practical code of ethics/law that some Islamic countries use to live out Islam in their daily life. On the whole, it gets bad press because it doesn’t treat women as equal to men and it even supports public executions and whippings. Read the rest of this entry »
This problem caused me a lot of pain and some headaches - how could I create a footer on a page that spanned the whole page from one side of the browser to the other? Most modern sites have 100% width footers with different backgrounds to the main body. Of course, with different page sizes, you can’t specify the background to the body tag as you would with the normal site background. Furthermore, if you place the footer inside the container/wrapper div, then it won’t span across 100% of browser
The solution is actually very simple.
Rather than having a single div for the footer, create 2 divs for the footer - one as div that will span the full 100% of the screen, the other similar to the container/wrapper of your main content that adjusts the same as your existing container and is centred. To the outer div (that spans all of the screen), apply the following CSS:
left: 0; // Zeros the div so that it goes from one side of the browser to the other
background: *Insert colour of choice*;
To the other div that you want to move at the same rate as your existing container/wrapper, simply add it as another selector along with the existing container - example:
